Dear all,

Most of you are now focused on exams and the end of the school year. You
have to deal with two kinds of pupils.
There are the ones who are looking out of the window and dreaming of being
outside in the sun as soon as possible because they have no exam this year.
These need motivation!
There are the ones who are getting stressed and want to focus on exams.
Those need help and advice.

For the second group, you do your best. For the first group, we can give you
ideas of short activities and longer projects for the next school year.

So this newsletter will be short but dedicated to helping you with May and
June as well as we can!

Kindly yours,
Brigitte

Event Over, Site Still On!

eSchola was successful again, many teachers and project coordinators
submitted projects, joined open ones, tested new collaborative environments,
proposed their favourite web sites and opened their school doors to Europe.
Even Canada and Australia organised special eSchola events!

Now the eSchola period is over and projects submitted to the eLearning
Awards will be evaluated by experts in technologies and education from all
over Europe.
But, the site will stay up and running for you to take time to look around,
get inspired and make full use of what eSchola has offered you this year.

Activities for All

The myEurope project is unique because it offers you all, at all levels, a
broad range of possibilities to use new technologies for one hour, two, a
term, whatever time you have.
The activities are taken care of by Petru Dumitru who puts all the
contributions online for you and your pupils to see what they have achieved
within the colourful framework of the myEurope project.
Use myEurope, it is full of very nice mini projects for pupils and teachers.

Let’s Talk

This discussion started within the broad and active myEUROPE schools
network. One teacher sent a message saying that she had difficulties coping
with adolescents and she wondered how her European colleagues handled
punishment at school. The others spontaneously replied. Then another
conversation started straight after the awful German event when a young man
shot teachers and some pupils in the school where he used to go. The
discussion this time spread out on general issues related to violence.
Eventually another very hot discussion started around how to communicate and
in which language!
These discussions are now available from the eSchoolnet portal for teachers
because we think they should be open to all.

http://www.eun.org/eun.org2/eun/en/Collaboration_eschoolnet/sub_area.cfm?sa=

Go there and see what happened during those discussions. If you have
anything to add, do not hesitate to contact Petru and he will put your text
online

Resource Depot

If the Internet is for you a place where you find documents that you cannot
find in textbooks, or where you send your pupils for more information on the
topic you are working on, we have opened a new resource area for you.
It gives you access to the European Treasury Browser, a database of quality
checked educational resources, and to other resource banks set up but some
of our partner countries. Help yourselves!

Resources by Subject

If you are not involved in a transversal project or if you stick to your
academic subject we have also opened a section for you to find resources and
colleagues in Europe who teach different subjects.
This area basically opens up the EUN Virtual School Departments for you.
Each department us run by international teams of teachers who teach the same
topic, who share and discuss, who open projects and select resources for
you.

Online Tools

Hot Potatoes, Groove, Community Zero, etc…all those tools that help you add
new technologies to your daily work are now also available from the
eSchoolnet portal.
The European Schoolnet proposes a range of collaborative and publishing
tools, but we would also like you to see what others do and access those
technologies simply without wasting too much time surfing around.

Violence at School, European resources

The European Commission proposes a set of links to those who are dealing
with the issue of violence at school. This issue unfortunately is becoming a
shared international concern and finding resources is very difficult. I have
searched for you but found only few web sites or projects.
Maybe we should think together about how to develop this topic further.

National Geographic

The National Geographic web site is excellent. The link I propose here will
take you to the teachers’ area of the English version. A French version of
the site also exists but it is less elaborate.
You will find lesson plans, maps, discovery games, all kinds of wonderful
activities for you to inspire and motivate your pupils.

SCOUT, Arts Project

Art reflects the cultural character of a society, its people, each
individual.
Theatre is like a mirror where we can confront our idol, see our face,
compare ourselves in order to discover similarities and differences.
Scout, having Art as a vehicle retrieves its stimulus from theatre. Scout
makes a fundamental transition of the educational process: from passivity to
creativity and to energetic team participation.
Join this project proposed by Greek colleagues and experience performing
arts as well as new technologies

How to Find Partners for Long Term Funded Projects

The Comenius actions offer you three ranges of opportunities for European
partnerships. Those opportunities are funded by the European Commission and
allow you to work or learn together as well as travel to meet your foreign
colleagues.
Take a look at what Comenius offers you at:

 Exchanges with Italian Schools

Two Italian teachers are looking for partners in any other European country:

Sabrina Valentini teaches 9 year olds, she is looking for teachers with
similar classes to exchange and chat in English
sabrina.valentini@tin.it

Rita Zibellini teaches the same age group and she is looking for contacts
for herself and her pupils. She is interested in the teaching of mathematics
and foreign languages
ritazibellini@libero.it

New Openings: Mexico

Tuly is a key contact at the heart of a network of 4 Mexican secondary
schools catering for 5000 pupils. She contacted us to see how to stimulate
collaboration between her schools and European ones.
If you are tempted by exchanges with Mexico, contact her!
Be aware that the pupils will be off school, on holiday for some time, so
any project can only start next school year.

Her email address is:
tquintan@campus.cegs.itesm.mx

African Postcolonial Literature in English

This site offers resources on some African countries about history,
geography, economics, visual arts, etc.
You are given access to bibliographies, maps, works of art, all related to
the African continent. This can be a good complementary resource for teams
of teachers who collaborate over themes on African culture.

Virtual Museum, Canada

This site doesn’t only open up Canadian museums to schools, but also
proposes ways and means to learn and teach by using museums whether you
teach arts or another subject, even maths, social studies, or religion. Fun
and games are also available for your pupils.

Seeing, Hearing and Smelling the World

Children should be taught at a very early age how to make the most of their
senses to be able to go through life with a full opening to the world. This
web site is both informative and scientific. It would be suitable for pupils
aged 14-18.
So go ahead and teach the wonderful world of the nose, the mouth and the
ears!

Get Healthy With Life Bytes

If you teach children aged between eleven and fifteen, or are just
interested in health issues for older children and teenagers, then take a
look at Life Bytes. The site has been launched by the UK's Department of
Health to help teach about health issues like smoking, accidents, and diet.
The site is fun to look at, with loads of cartoons and bright colours to
enjoy.
